In 2010 a limit on expenses was set for the Danish municipalities. Since then the municipality of Copenhagen has built liquid assets amounting to almost nine billion Danish kroner. This amount could cover about a third of the costs for building a Øresund Metro – a tunnel train between Malmö and Copenhagen. This is shown in the overview of finances for the Øresund municipalities made by News Øresund.
The total cost of constructing a Øresund Metro has not been established, but at a cost of between 20 and 30 billion Danish kroner Copenhagen should easily be able to pay a third of this amount. At present a study is being conducted by both cities concerning the possibilities of building a tunnel train and this will be presented this Autumn (News Øresund).
